Equipment Grants
The impact of the Greensboro police foundation is significant to our police department by providing an avenue for our agency to seek new and innovative equipment that makes our community safer which our budget simply does not accommodate.

Greensboro Police Department
The first major accomplishment of the Greensboro Police Foundation was the successful campaign to raise money for the purchase of 125 body cameras. Greensboro became the first major US city to outfit its entire patrol force with body cameras.
In 2015, we followed up with another successful campaign to raise money for the purchase of a new Mobile Command Center. This state-of-the art vehicle is used for multi-day crime scene investigations, disaster relief management, recruiting events, and community outreach. It features the latest technology available in these types of vehicles, although officers will tell you that one of the most beneficial features is the on-board restroom.
Of course, the equipment needs of a modern police department are always evolving, and the police foundation strives to keep the GPD on the cutting edge. Since 2016, our gifts include:
- an Urban Response Vehicle that is easily deployed in downtown and large-crowd settings.
- a new FireArms Training Simulator for the GPD’s Basic Law Enforcement Training Academy.
- two Mobile Video Trailers whose video footage is fed to the Real Time Information Center where the GPD fights crime as it is taking place.
Outfitting the GPD with the latest and greatest in police technology will always be a foundational goal of the Greensboro Police Foundation If this mandate is important to you, click here to donate.
